Vegan Food

A vegan is someone that does not eat any animal derived food. Often confused with vegetarianism, vegans do not eat or drink any dairy products, fish, eggs, or meat, whereas vegetarians tend to eat dairy produce but do not eat meat, although some people that eat fish and white meat also class themselves as vegetarian. Veganism has become more and more popular over the years, and people become vegan for a variety of reasons. For some it is a life choice, for others a religious requirement, and still others become vegan for health reasons.

In the past, becoming a vegan or even a vegetarian could be very difficult as the limited menu for such groups was not particularly appetizing. However, over recent years food manufacturers realized that this type of diet had grown in popularity, and that there was a real gap in the market for something a little different and more exciting when it came to vegan foods. As a result of this realization coupled with advanced technology and food science, there is now a wide and tempting range of vegan foods on the shelves, enabling vegans to enjoy a far more varied and exciting diet.

From frozen dinners and soups to sandwich fillings and soy dairy products, the list of vegan food available goes on and on. Vegans can now enjoy a cheese sandwich, a glass of milk, and a ham salad, because all of these previously restricted foods are special vegan and vegetarian alternatives that use ingredients such as rice and soya to create the right texture and taste, but without actually using any animal derived ingredients.

Even restaurants have now started serving a range of vegetarian and vegan foods on the menu, making it easier for vegans to go out for a meal and enjoy something filling and satisfying from the menu. It seems that every day there is something new on the shelf or on the menu when it comes to vegan food, and both vegetarians and vegans can now enjoy a healthier, more balanced, and far more interesting diet.
